My students consist of those who are exploring interpretation as a possible career, bilingual clinicians and non-clinicians who at times are asked to serve as interpreters, and already working interpreters who seek training to improve their skills and learn how to become better interpreters.

 

My courses exist first to make interpreters as good as they can be at their profession. Second, if we are all doing the same things, it creates less confusion for providers and clients. Third, for those interpreters who will seek national foreign language medical interpreter certification, my courses provide them with the information and skills they need to continue preparing for the written and oral exams after my courses end. An interpreter never stops studying!

 

The overall goal is to ensure that trained foreign language interpreters are prepared for their careers and serve both the U.S. biomedical community and the limited English proficient (LEP) communities.
